Changing your plan — upgrading, downgrading, cancelling

This page walks through how to move between plans on techs.solar — upgrading from Free to paid, changing card details, cancelling an active subscription, and what to do inside the pre-capture cancellation window. Feature-by-feature plan comparison lives in free-vs-paid and Founding Member vs Standard plan — what’s the difference?; this page is about the mechanics of switching.

  • Free — the default state after registration. Limited profile visibility, capped quote count, restricted feature access.
  • Early Bird 2026 — the introductory paid tier for accounts that joined during the launch window. Same feature set as Standard, at a lower rate that persists year over year for as long as you keep the subscription active.
  • Standard — the regular paid tier for accounts that join after the Early Bird window closes.

You’re on exactly one tier at a time. The tier is shown at the top of your Billing page.

Open Settings → Billing and pick the checkout flow shown there. techs.solar selects a payment processor for you (Stripe or Viva) to complete the subscription — which one depends on your account and product, not something you choose yourself. When checkout completes, your tier updates automatically — no separate action needed on your end.

The Founding Member offer, where it’s open, has its own checkout accessible from a dedicated page. Availability is per-country and limited by remaining slots in your local area — it can close before a set date if slots run out. See Founding Member vs Standard plan — what’s the difference? for what it costs and what it includes beyond a standard subscription.

Changing your card, updating billing details, or cancelling an active subscription

Section titled “Changing your card, updating billing details, or cancelling an active subscription”

Once you have an active paid subscription, your Billing page has an Open Billing Portal button that hands you off to your payment processor’s own customer portal, where you can update your card and manage your subscription. This currently works reliably for Stripe subscriptions; if you’re on Viva and the portal doesn’t open, use Contact support instead — Viva’s self-service portal isn’t live yet.

Cancelling from the portal is meant to take effect at the end of your current billing period, not immediately — but always check the confirmation screen the portal shows you before you close it, since the exact behavior is controlled by the payment processor.

If you’ve just authorized a payment but it hasn’t been captured yet (this applies mainly to Founding Member and similar delayed-capture flows), you have a 24-hour self-service cancellation window directly from your Billing page. After 24 hours pass, or once the payment is captured, that self-service button disappears and cancellation moves through the processor portal above.

Refunds aren’t self-service. Within 14 days of your payment being captured, your Billing page shows a money-back guarantee notice with a Contact support link that emails support@techs.solar directly. Outside that window, refunds are handled case by case through the same support channel. See refunds-policy for the specifics.
