Understanding your lead pipeline — the six stages a lead moves through
Every lead that lands in your dashboard sits at a specific stage in your sales pipeline. Moving leads through the stages as you work them keeps the Leads list useful — a quick glance tells you where each conversation is and what your next action should be.
The six stages
Section titled “The six stages”techs.solar uses a fixed pipeline shape. Every lead is in exactly one of these states:
| Stage | What it means | Your typical next step |
|---|---|---|
| New Lead | Just arrived, no action taken yet | Contact the homeowner within your first-response window |
| Contacted | You’ve reached out (call, email, WhatsApp) but no visit booked yet | Follow up or book a survey visit |
| Visit Booked | An on-site survey or measurement is scheduled | Complete the visit, then generate a quote |
| Quote Sent | You’ve generated and sent a quote from Quote Generator | Follow up on the quote; wait for customer decision |
| Won | Customer accepted; the job is yours | Move to installation planning; monitoring setup after install |
| Lost | Customer went elsewhere, didn’t respond, or the fit wasn’t right | Move on; see handling-a-lost-lead for how to close cleanly |
The stages are visually colour-coded in the Leads list so you can scan by state without reading names.
Where you change the stage
Section titled “Where you change the stage”Switch to the Pipeline tab in your Leads section for the Kanban board view. Each lead is a card in its current stage’s column; move it forward (or back) with the stage buttons on the card. Won and Lost aren’t locked once set — you can move a lead back out of either if you marked it by mistake.
The lead’s own detail page shows its stage as a read-only pill, plus Mark Won / Mark Lost actions once you’re ready to close it out. Changes made from the Pipeline tab don’t refresh automatically on the separate list view — revisit or reload to see the latest stage there.
Why stages matter
Section titled “Why stages matter”- Sorting — you can filter your Leads list to just New or just Contacted to focus your next block of work
- Handover clarity — if you share your account with a partner, the pipeline stage tells them exactly where a lead is without a status meeting
What the pipeline does NOT do
Section titled “What the pipeline does NOT do”- It doesn’t score leads. There’s no “hot” or “cold” ranking today — that judgment stays with you.
- It doesn’t auto-progress. You move a lead forward when you’ve done the work; the platform doesn’t guess.
- It doesn’t notify the homeowner of stage changes — the pipeline is your internal view.
